China Student Visa for Moroccan Students 2026/2027: Documents, Steps and Processing Time

Last updated: September 8, 2026 · Written by the Redream team

Key points in 30 seconds

  • An X1 visa is generally for study longer than 180 days; an X2 visa is for study of up to 180 days.
  • X1 applicants need a valid passport, an admission letter, and a JW201 or JW202 form.
  • The application and documents are submitted online first; the passport is deposited after preliminary online approval.
  • The Embassy lists 4 working days for normal service and 2–3 working days for express service, although some cases take longer.
  • After entering China with X1, apply for a student residence permit within 30 days.

Short answer: a Moroccan student admitted to a long-term degree program in China will usually need an X1 visa. The strongest applications have matching details across the passport, admission letter and JW201/JW202, plus clear and complete scans.

This 2026/2027 guide is based on instructions from the Chinese Embassy in Morocco and China’s National Immigration Administration. If you are still preparing your application, read our complete study-in-China guide for Moroccan students.

China student visa documents for Moroccan applicants

  • Passport valid for at least six months on the application date, with blank pages.
  • Online application form and a recent compliant ID photo.
  • Admission letter issued by the Chinese university or educational institution.
  • For X1: JW201 or JW202 confirmation form.
  • For X2: DQ form or admission letter, depending on the case.
  • Copies of previous Chinese visas, if applicable.
Applicants under 18: parental travel authorization, family booklet, birth certificate, parents’ IDs and custody documents may also be requested. A visa officer may request extra documents or an interview.

How to apply step by step

  1. Check that your name, passport number, university and dates match on every document.
  2. Prepare clear scans of the passport, photo, admission and JW201/JW202 or DQ.
  3. Complete the application through the Chinese consular visa portal.
  4. Wait for preliminary online approval.
  5. Submit the passport and follow the appointment and fingerprint instructions shown for your case.
  6. When collecting the visa, verify the name, passport number, X1/X2 category and number of entries.

Processing time and cost in Morocco

The Chinese Embassy in Morocco lists 4 working days for normal service and 2–3 working days for express service, with an announced express surcharge of MAD 300 per visa. Its fee table shows a base visa fee of MAD 0 for Moroccan nationals. Individual applications may take longer.

This does not necessarily include the time needed to receive your admission letter, JW201/JW202 or preliminary online approval. Always check the official processing-time and fee page before submission.

After arriving in China on an X1 visa

  • Apply for a student residence permit within 30 days of entry.
  • Prepare your passport, application form, photo, a university letter showing the study period, and your admission or enrollment proof.
  • A health certificate may be required for a residence permit valid for more than one year.
  • If you are not staying at a hotel, register your accommodation with the local police within 24 hours.

Common mistakes that delay applications

  • Name spelling does not match the passport.
  • Blurry scans or missing passport pages.
  • Choosing X2 for a program longer than 180 days.
  • Travel dates that conflict with the university start date.
  • Buying a non-refundable ticket before the visa decision.
  • Following an old checklist instead of current official instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need X1 or X2 for a university degree?

A degree program normally lasts longer than 180 days, so X1 is generally the appropriate category.

Does JW202 replace the admission letter?

No. They serve different purposes and are both requested for an X1 application.

Are fingerprints mandatory in 2026?

The temporary exemption published for certain short-stay visas was only stated through December 31, 2025. Follow the fingerprint instruction shown in your 2026 application.

What is the first task after arrival?

Contact the university’s international office and, if your visa requires it, begin the residence-permit process within 30 days.
