Choosing a Study City in China 2027: Campus, Housing and Budget

Updated 18 October 2026 · Redream team

Choosing a study city in China involves more than photographs of Beijing, Shanghai or a coastal destination. Your daily experience depends on the actual campus, housing location, nearby services and a budget your family can sustain. Find a suitable academic programme first, then compare its setting using specific evidence.

The answer in 30 seconds

Check the programme and actual campus before choosing a city name. Request study and accommodation addresses, calculate first-year costs and confirm everyday transport and services.

A city name is not a campus address

A university may operate several campuses and require a move during the course. For example, XJTLU’s official accommodation page explains that certain students entering Year One at Entrepreneur College (Taicang) study first at Suzhou SIP before moving to Taicang. Confirm the location for your programme and each year.

A photograph of the main campus does not establish where your classes will take place. Ask for the school name, teaching address and residence location. “Close to a famous city” is not enough to plan your daily routine.

Start with academic suitability

Exclude programmes that do not match your qualifications, teaching language or goals before comparing lifestyle. An attractive city cannot compensate for the absence of your intended subject. Equally, an unfamiliar city may host a suitable course.

Check the qualification title and awarding institution, and consider your plans after graduation. Our 2027 study in China guide helps organise these questions before you focus on everyday living.

Housing and transport: map a complete day

Trace the route from your room to classes, the library, food and shops. Ask about actual distances, transport options and service hours, rather than only the distance to the city centre. A city metro network does not establish that your campus has a convenient station.

Check room type, occupancy, included charges and booking procedures. Ask about holiday accommodation and arrangements if your course moves campus. Use our university housing guide to prepare detailed questions.

Compare budgets on the same basis

Use figures for the actual programme and campus. Separate annual fees from monthly living costs and include initial expenses. Two offers cannot be compared fairly if one includes accommodation while the other excludes it.

  • Tuition and any included materials or services.
  • Housing, utilities and internet as specified in writing.
  • Food, routine transport and communications.
  • Travel, initial setup and an allowance for unexpected expenses.
  • Confirmed funding, kept separate from pending scholarship applications.

Do not assume a smaller city is always cheaper. Available housing and commuting needs may change the total. Work in the quoted currency first, then check conversion and payment charges rather than relying on a fixed exchange rate.

Services that matter to Moroccan students

Check suitable food options near your campus, including halal meals if needed. Ask about locations, hours and what is actually served. A restaurant elsewhere in the city may not be practical for daily use.

Identify the international student office, communication language, arrival support and nearby health services. Research the climate during the months you will study and check room facilities. A Moroccan student community may help adjustment, but it does not replace academic suitability or reliable institutional support.

A practical three-option comparison

Create one column per programme, with rows for campus, housing, travel, total cost and services. Record the source and date of each answer. Mark missing information “to confirm” instead of treating it as a benefit.

Agree priorities with your family: a realistic budget ceiling, housing proximity and language support. Exclude options that fail essential requirements, then compare convenience and lifestyle. This is Redream’s planning method, not an official city ranking.

Five questions before you commit

  1. Which campus will host my studies in each year?
  2. Is accommodation confirmed, and which charges are excluded?
  3. How will I travel between the residence and classes?
  4. Who provides arrival support or handles problems?
  5. Can I receive the fees and booking conditions in writing?

Keep the answers with your offer. Once admission and required procedures are complete, use our first-week checklist for China to organise your arrival.

Frequently asked questions

Which city is best for every Moroccan student?

There is no universal best choice. Your programme, campus, budget and daily needs determine the fit.

Is a former student’s experience sufficient?

It helps identify practical questions, but confirm current prices, campus arrangements and services with the institution.

Does a nearby business district guarantee an internship?

No. Check programme arrangements and the applicable internship or work conditions separately.
