Two degrees with similar titles may teach different subjects and skills. Before choosing a programme in China, request the curriculum for your intended qualification and intake. You do not need to understand every technical term to begin making a useful comparison.
The answer in 30 seconds
- Compare actual courses rather than the degree title alone.
- Separate required courses, electives and practical projects.
- Confirm the teaching language, campus and qualification.
- Match the requirements to your preparation and goals.
Find the right curriculum
A curriculum usually sets out courses by year or semester and may include credits, prerequisites, placements and a final project. It is different from the personal study plan you write for a scholarship application.
Look for course descriptions or a student handbook on the department website. If the document is old, ask for a version applying to 2027 or confirmation of changes. A promotional overview may not show the full course structure.
Start with the first year
Check the foundations: mathematics, coding, laboratory science, academic writing or management. Compare these with your education and areas needing preparation. A demanding course is a reason to plan realistically, not necessarily to reject the degree.
Then follow the progression into advanced subjects. Check whether prerequisites are clearly explained. Ask about unfamiliar terms rather than judging by a course title alone.
Separate required courses and electives
Not every course displayed on a programme page is taken by every student. Some are optional and their availability may depend on enrolment or departmental arrangements. Ask what choices are actually available.
For each degree, identify compulsory foundations, specialisation options and the final project. Comparing only total credits can mislead when the calculation systems differ.
Look closely at practical learning
Identify laboratories, projects, case studies, placements and dissertations. Ask how they are organised and assessed. A placement reference does not promise paid work or later employment.
For a technical degree, ask about the projects students complete. For business, investigate case studies and group assignments. Connect these activities to specific skills you want to develop.
Confirm language, campus and award
Check the language of teaching and assessment, graduation language requirements and the actual campus. For a joint or dual award, identify each awarding institution and the conditions for each qualification.
The Xiamen 2027 guide illustrates general study preceding some specialist courses. This is an example, not a universal structure. See our city and campus guide too.
Make an evidence-based comparison
Create a sheet covering qualification, language, core courses, projects, duration, cost and unresolved questions. Record the source of each item and mark uncertain details for confirmation.
Discuss the academic workload and budget with your family. If your intended profession is regulated, check recognition and equivalence in Morocco separately. A strong curriculum does not itself establish professional eligibility.
Frequently asked questions
Does the same degree title mean the same content? No. Compare the courses, structure and final award.
What if the detailed curriculum is missing? Request it from the department, specifying your intake. Use our admissions email guide.
Can I change majors later? Do not assume so. Read the university and funding rules before choosing your initial programme.
