University Accommodation in China 2027: Booking Your Room

Updated 11 October 2026 · Redream team

Choosing university accommodation in China is an important part of preparing to study abroad. If you are travelling from Morocco for the first time, a room photo and a price are only the starting point. Location, sharing arrangements, payment terms and the move-in date all affect your plans.

This guide helps you organise a booking for 2027 and identify what to ask before paying. Procedures vary by university, campus and programme. Use the official housing notice for your student category as the final reference for dates and fees.

Confirm these points before you travel

  • University admission does not automatically confirm a room booking.
  • Check the campus, room type and period covered by the price.
  • Keep the booking confirmation, payment receipts and arrival instructions.
  • Use your university’s notice for 2027; a 2026 example is not your booking schedule.

Does an admission offer guarantee a room?

Do not treat your admission letter as a room-booking confirmation. Look for a separate housing confirmation or an explicit statement in your admission or scholarship documents. If the wording is unclear, ask the international student office for a written explanation.

For example, Tsinghua’s 2027 graduate admissions guide describes limited campus accommodation, with online booking on a first-come basis for eligible full-time international students. This is a specific university example, not a rule for every institution in China.

Which room type should you choose?

A single room

If offered to your student category, a single room may suit your need for privacy or quiet study. Check what “single” includes: is the bathroom private or shared? Does the listed price cover utilities, or only the room itself?

A twin room

Check the number of beds, storage space and whether each occupant has a desk. Ask whether you can request a roommate or a room change later. A request is not the same as a confirmed arrangement.

A shared room or student apartment

Sharing may refer to one bedroom with several occupants or to separate bedrooms with shared facilities. Ask how many people use the kitchen and bathroom. Do not assume every university offers each option, or that all programmes have access to the same accommodation.

9 questions before booking university accommodation in China

  1. Which campus is it on? Compare the residence address with your teaching location and check transport if they differ.
  2. How many people share? Distinguish between occupants of your room and those sharing the bathroom or apartment.
  3. What equipment is included? Check the bed, desk, wardrobe, heating or air conditioning, and anything you must buy.
  4. Where are the facilities? Ask about bathrooms, kitchens, laundry and internet access.
  5. How are utilities charged? Find out whether water, electricity and internet are included or billed separately.
  6. What is the initial payment for? It may be an advance against rent, a refundable security deposit or a non-refundable fee; confirm which applies.
  7. What does the price cover? Is it per person or per room, and per day, semester or year?
  8. What happens if plans change? Read cancellation, refund, deposit-deduction and check-out terms.
  9. Can you stay during holidays? Confirm availability and any additional charges.

Build a complete housing budget

Start with the official rent for your intended stay. Add the items not included, such as utilities, laundry, bedding and transport where applicable. If you arrive before the residence opens, account for temporary accommodation as well.

Cash needed at the start = housing payment due + required security deposit + equipment and initial expenses. This is different from the final cost. A refundable deposit ties up money at the beginning but may be returned under the stated conditions.

Keep the original yuan amounts in your budget. When converting them to Moroccan dirhams, record the exchange rate and transfer fees used. Compare offers for the same duration and services; a broad estimate of living costs does not replace the residence’s own price list.

How to book from Morocco

  1. Find the correct notice: match the intake year, campus, study level and new or continuing student category.
  2. Record the deadlines: check opening and closing times, including the time zone and its difference from Morocco on that date.
  3. Use the official route: open the booking portal linked by the university and prepare the requested information.
  4. Review before paying: check the room, dates, amount, payment recipient and cancellation conditions.
  5. Save evidence: keep the confirmation, receipts, application status and housing office contact details.
  6. Arrange arrival: confirm the move-in date, reception hours, address and required check-in documents.

The Fudan Handan campus notice for autumn 2026 illustrates why details matter: booking windows differed by student category, and missing payment deadlines could cancel a reservation. This is a previous example, not a booking schedule for 2027.

Does a scholarship cover accommodation?

Read your award letter carefully. Does it provide a room, waive particular housing fees or pay an accommodation allowance? These are different arrangements. Confirm the room type covered, any extra charges and whether you must still complete a booking procedure.

Before removing rent from your personal budget, check the period and conditions covered. If you receive an allowance, ask when the first payment is expected so you can plan your initial expenses.

What if no room is available?

Contact the international student office or residence team about waiting lists and possible later availability. If you are considering living off campus, ask the university about its policy and the address-registration steps relevant to your situation.

Before paying for an alternative, verify the provider’s identity, exact address, contract and refund terms. Work out your daily journey to classes. Photos alone do not confirm that a property is available or that the stated terms apply to your booking.

What to check when you arrive

Inspect the furniture and equipment with the relevant staff. Report existing faults at the start and retain an inventory or condition report if one is provided. Find out how to report repairs and learn the rules on visitors, appliances and quiet hours.

Discuss shared space and daily routines with your roommate. For your next steps, use our first-week arrival checklist for Moroccan students. If you are still choosing a programme, start with the complete guide to studying in China in 2027.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move in before classes begin?

Only if the residence allows it. Confirm its opening date and reception hours, especially if your flight arrives late, at the weekend or during a closure period.

Can my parents stay in my room?

Check the visitor policy. A student room booking is not a family accommodation booking. Arrange separate accommodation if accompanying family members cannot stay in the residence.

Will my room look exactly like the photos?

Not necessarily. Ask for a description or images of the building and room type you have reserved, and check whether the photos show a sample room or the actual allocated accommodation.

Which documents should I keep accessible while travelling?

Save your booking confirmation, receipts, arrival instructions and official contacts in a folder available offline. Include any additional check-in documents requested by the residence.
